Your Visit

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment. We ask that you eat something within a few hours before your treatment.  Because many of our patients have chemical sensitivities, please refrain from wearing perfumes or other strong fragrances.

At your first appointment, which will last between 1 1/2 and 2 hours, we will go through a thorough health history with you and answer any questions you might have about Chinese Medicine.  We will then take your pulse and look at your tongue, two of the primary Chinese Medicine diagnostic techniques, to develop your diagnosis and treatment plan.  We may palpate your neck, shoulders and abdomen or look over your limbs to discern which meridians to use in treatment.

We will next insert sterile, hair-thin needles into acupuncture points in your body and let you relax for 20 to 45 minutes.  When applicable, we may use moxa, essential oils, massage, gua sha or cupping to enhance your treatment.  If you decide to reinforce your healthcare with herbs, we will assemble a formula handcrafted specifically for you.

After your treatment, we will discuss your treatment plan with you.  We may also talk with you about lifestyle and diet modifications that will be beneficial for your health.

Follow-up treatments generally last between 1 and 1 1/2 hours.Acupuncture can be incredibly relaxing.  If you do not feel alert enough to drive after your treatment, please rest in our lobby until you are ready.
